The Government puts up names of organizations which are accredited, meaning that you can deal with them without fear of fraud. By donating to such organizations you will also be able to get a genuine certificate of sale and a receipt which outlines the fair price for your car. Dealing with a genuine organization will also keep you out of the bad books of the IRS. The intelligent thing to do is to look for a charitable cause close to home. In this case, you will have probably heard about them and about the kind of good work they do. When you have identified the cause that you would like to donate to, look for an agency near you who are in the business of accepting these cars. They will pay you a fair price for your car. It might not be as much as the fraudsters who will promise you the earth. But then you can rest assured that the cars to charity which they accept will go to the right cause.
